The school board voted 6-2 Friday night to adopt a preliminary budget that cuts kindergarten to a half-day program.

The sale of a 42-acre vacant land parcel would is one of several planned real estate transactions intended to help Harrisburg School District pay down $437 million of debt.

The vote from the board came after more than two hours of discussion in which more than 20 residents urged the board to keep a full-day kindergarten program intact.
